october, really?

Lisbon in Film - Yashica TL Electro X // Twiggs Photography

they should definitely let us know when we’re kids, that as time goes by, it also goes by really really fast! i cannot believe that we’re almost reaching christmas! there are three months left to the end of the year… last year we were jumping of excitement about our christmas and new year’s, because we had booked ourselves a flight for three weeks in new york! and to think that it’s that time of the year right on the corner?! whow!

and now to talk about this picture… do you get that effect on the upper left corner of the image with your cameras? sometimes i do and with both, digital and film. it’s about the sun, i get that, but i wonder what causes the straight line? when i really love some picture i end up cropping it to get rid of that “not awesome” detail! clues?

on the day i took a trip to the botanical garden. yes, i do that all the time! and as i was walking to it, i kept finding these nice details in some old buildings in lisbon. loved the light colours, the pastel hues… and rich details, such as this door on the left! right after it, i found this car, which has nothing to do with pastel colours, but i absolutely loved it! how cool is this car?

thousands of post-its

yes, thousands… with requests from people all over lisbon! i’m really proud of such creative ideas!

oh and yes, this was from that expired roll i bought on ebay. which i found out later, thanks to sara, i realized that i had my holga set on bulb the whole time, hence the blurry images. it was not about the expired film after all, but that small button, that must have changed its place inside my handbag!

so the idea about this wall of post-its? first these are really post-its! thousands of them written by people living in lisbon with ideas for the city. i’m not really sure what they did with the post-its, but it would be nice if they had did something cool, like a book or a website! and of course, it would be super cool, if they did something about those ideas!

and this last building is just next to this one in lisbon and i find it really pretty! so i thought you would also appreciate a pretty building!

this yellow car

Yellow Mini Car - Film Photography // Twiggs Photography

for those who have been reading this blog and my other one knows that i have a dog. and if there is one good thing about having a dog and working from home is the mandatory breaks during the day to walk the dog. mr kobe is walked three times a day, being the first and last just a 10 minute walk, but the middle one is a large one hour walk.

i try to choose nice neighbourhoods to walk with him, and this one is one of my favourites. instead of being crowded with tall buildings, looking like boxes and filled with dozens of apartments, this neighbourhood is made of rows of family houses with gardens, backyards and their own dogs! it feels good to walk through it, because it’s quiet, calm and beautiful. i get the chance of taking pictures to flowers and cute gates, mr kobe has a friend on one of the houses and there is this yellow car, always parked in this same spot. i love it. i wish i could own a car like this! would be so happy inside my tiny car! do you like these cars? or any other old vehicle?

it’s still summer in lisbon

of course, how could not be? i’m really tired of it, but at least we’re already having crispier mornings and evenings, which feels really good.

if you’re recognizing this picture, well, this was the version #2 of a roll i had already developed and asked the lab to review their settings as something was wrong. remember my drama about every roll looking the same? yes, so they did their work again on about 3 or 4 rolls, without any extra costs (bonus points for them, a lot of bonus points!) and this is how it looks now and this is how it looked before! it’s colder now, which is not quite the light in lisbon, but i prefer it this way. as it’s also lighter and architecture in lisbon is lighter, mainly white, it’s closer to the original landscape.

i was wondering the other day who were my readers and as i’m talking about lisbon… i wonder where are you from?

i will miss this light

when we decided we were going to move a lot happened in just a few days. we were excited as we could be, we told our landlady that we were moving out and then she decided to makes us respect the contract where it says we need to give a 4 month warning, before moving. which is actually quite ridiculous. i understand they need to protect themselves, but 4 months? i know i signed that on the contract, but i’ve been living here for almost 5 years, always paid everything on time and now she wants 4 months? we thought “that’s ok, it’s gonna be easy to find someone to rent this house, let’s start spreading the word!”.

and then a few days went by and we expected a lot more requests for the house than actually received. but 5 days later a couple came to see the house and 10 minutes later they were calling to let us know they would make an offer to the agency! yay! we signed the contract for our new home and we’re just waiting for the call to start moving filling the boxes with what we have… i sense a small nightmare, but it’s for a good cause!

and of course, though the other house is bigger, has way much square meters than our tiny home, i don’t think it will have this beautiful light coming inside every single day. i’ll miss this light!

have a nice monday

hey there, long time no see, right? yes, i’ve been a busy lady and yet i’ve been shooting so much film, but as film is actually quite expensive to develop (mainly the 120mm film), i’ve been postponing that for ages. i have 7 rolls waiting for me to drop them on the lab, but you know… i’m a bit scared of the bill to pay for all this! so for now, the news and just a pretty image wishing you a nice monday ok?

– i’ve reopened my redesigned blog;
– i worked on a rebranding process for the last month and launched a brand new portfolio website, with a new brand and logo;
– both etsy shops opened again;
design shop on society6 is filled with new goodies;
– there’s a new facebook page;
– and… we’re moving to a new bigger house on the same neighbourhood (double bonus)!

so, what have you been up to lately? have you been shooting around like maniacs?

once during summer

back when i had little clue about what i was doing with my holga! still the first one is one of my favourites! this happens to be pretty common among some photographers, some of our favourite pictures are some of those taken in the very beginning, when we were clueless. which only means that being a good photographer has nothing to do with equipment, but with your eyes and heart!

do you want to share your favourite (or one of your favourites) picture with me? leave a link to it, so that i can take a look! have a great monday!

my father

i always had this great relationship with my father, even if during most of the years i lived with my parents, his job kept him away from home four days a week. i loved to chat with him, though i think he always got lost in details and had this tremendous difficulty in going straight to the point and was not that fast speaker, i told him about the first time i drank alcohol, got drunk and sick, all in the same time (new year’s!) and he laughed at me, i remember him coming home from the grocery shopping with my mom and he was lifting a tricycle over his head for me, until today the smell of raw wood from carpenter’s shops is really familiar to me, because he worked as a sales man in that field and i would go with him on his visits when i was off school… and i remember him holding me and pointing me at the waves when i was little, without letting me go and i would cry the whole time. it’s amazing how on earth i like water, i like to swim and i love my father, after this! and this is a photo i took two years ago on my hometown while we were taking a walk.

he had a few light strokes in these last years, lost a lot of his memory and some capabilities began to deteriorate, this year he was diagnosed with alzheimer’s. it’s heartbreaking and at the same time, after all these last years’ changes, it doesn’t surprise me. both my brother and i moved to different cities, so we’re not there with them and we don’t go there that often, though we try to see them from time to time in the course of the year. it’s just sad what the future holds for us sometimes.
